History
Nearly 100 years after it first opened in 1892, duPont Manual High School became a magnet school in 1984, offering five four-year programs to students in Jefferson County Public Schools.
One of those programs was Communications/Media Arts, known as CMA, which originally emphasized the technology and training needed for the broadcast journalism industry. In 2012, magnet leaders retooled the program and changed its name to Journalism & Communication to reflect its primary focus on journalism.
Manual J&C students have earned recognition and prestigious awards at the state and national level for several years now, including:
- CSPA Crowns
- CSPA Gold Circles
- NSPA Pacemakers
- NSPA Story of the Year
- NSPA Photo of the Year
- NSPA Multimedia Story of the Year
- NSPA Brasler Prize
- WKU Mark of Excellence
- KHSJA awards
