Although individual categories do not have a written set of standards, staff members have held workshops detailing the ins and outs of opinion and feature article writing, and there is a comprehensive set of guidelines for sports coverage, the highlights of which are below.
Sports
- Writers and editors should be prepared to stay up late after the game to write, edit and publish the article
- Writers should arrive at least 15 minutes early to the game
- Writers should livetweet the whole game - these will serve as your notes for writing the article
- After the game, writers should interview multiple Manual players, Manual’s coach, and at least one player or coach from the other team
- Immediately after the game, writers should send their editor a 50 to 75 word summary. This and the full article should include the final score
- Final articles should include a lot of multimedia - writers should record their interviews along with taking photos or arranging for a photographer to be at the game
